Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) document file format and not in PDF format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a recommended fonts; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The references are number, not duplicated, without hyperlinks and placed at the end of the manuscript under the title: References.

Instructions to Authors

The Journal of Intellectual Property Rights is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to publishing papers on all aspects of the intellectual property rights.

The Journal accepts the following types of works for publication. 

  1. Research Article: Word Limit - 8000 words
  2. Review Articles: Word Limit - 8000 words
  3. Case Studies: Word Limit - 5000 words 
  4. Book Review: Word Limit - 1000 words.
  5. IPR News: 500-1000 words. 

Besides these, the journal also publishes Special Issues and Series on topics of contemporary relevance. 

Preparation of Manuscript for Submission 

The following layout is suggested for submissions made to the journal for peer review. The manuscript may be submitted in an editable word file complete with Author names and their affiliations. Contact details of the corresponding author should also be provided on the first page of the manuscript. Authors may use sans serif or times new roman text formatting.

Title: 15pt, bold and centre aligned

Authors and their affiliations: 10pt, centre aligned

Contact details for the Corresponding author: 10pt

Abstract and Keywords: 10pt, up to 250 words long, covering the background, purpose, methodology and main results of the study.

The Headings of each section should be 12pt, Bold, Left Aligned and should not be numbered.

The first level Subheading should be 9pt, Bold. Second level of Subheading 9pt, Bold-Italics only. Subheadings at third level should be 9 pt, Italics. It is suggested that the authors avoid further sectioning of the article text. 

The Pages should not have borders and page numbers. All sections should be in single column format.

The manuscript should be ordered as follows: Title page, Abstract, Keywords, Article Text, No Conflict of Interest Declaration, Funding Information (if any), References. The tables and figures (tiff/jpeg or other) should be placed in the article text at the position where they are first mentioned in text. 

A declaration stating that the manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration shall be provided. Further, the authors are required to ensure the originality of their work, i.e., the proper citations have been given at places where previously reported works, data, tables or figures have been quoted. Wherever required the necessary permissions to use material from the publisher/author should be taken by the authors. 

Acknowledgement

Acknowledgements should not be exuberant and must be made only to real assistance rendered in connection with the work reported in the paper.

Conflict of Interest Declaration

The authors must declare any conflict of interest in terms of authorship, funding and contribution etc. If there are no conflicts then a simple line stating this shall be included. 

Referencing Style 

References should be numbered in text as superscripts in order of their appearance. The full references should be listed under the references section of the manuscript and not written in footnotes or endnotes. Authors may use Endnotes instead of footnotes for giving any supplementary information which they deem necessary for establishing context or informing the readers of the article. 

The following layout may be followed in writing the references:

References to the Information Sources, numbered consecutively, should be placed at the end of the paper as end notes and not as footnotes. Identical references should be indicated by the same reference numeral. In the text, references should be indicated by numbers placed above the line (superscript) and come after the full point. e.g. The realization ……………… developing countries.1

Reference to Articles should include names and initials for the authors followed, in order, by the title of the paper, full title of the periodical (italics), the volume number, issue number within circular brackets, year within circular brackets, and inclusive pages, e. g., Rastogi T, IP audit: Way to a healthy organization, Journal of Intellectual Property Rights, 15(4) (2010) 302-309. If a paper has been accepted for publication, the names of the authors and the journal (with volume number and year, if known) should be given followed by the words “in press”.

Reference to a book should include details in the following order: name and initials of authors, the title of the book (italics), name of publisher and place of publication within circular brackets, edition, year of publication, and page(s), e. g., Sreedharan Sunita K, An Introduction to Intellectual Asset Management (Wolter Kluwer India Pvt Ltd, New Delhi), 2008, p. 214-216.

If the reference is to the work of an author published in a book by a different person, the fact that it is cited from the source book should be clearly indicated. 

Reference to Book Chapter should include authors name, name of chapter (italics), In. book author/editor, name of book (italics), name of publisher and place of publication within circular brackets, edition, year of publication, and page(s).

Proceedings of conferences and symposia should be treated in the same manner as books. References to a paper presented at a conference, the proceedings of which are not published, should include, in the following order, names and initials of authors, title of the paper (underlined), name of the conference, and where and when it was held.

Reference to information downloaded from a website should give full address of website without underline, followed by date of download, if data are dynamic, e.g., www.niscair.res.in (24 September 2010).

 References to case laws should begin with the name of the case with the plaintiff and defendant names in italics, followed by the citation as in case law reporter, e.g., Vranjilal Manilal & Co v Bansal Tobacco Co (2001) PTC 99 (Del).

 References to a patent should include names of patentees, title of the patent, country of origin (italics) and patent number, organization to which the patent has been assigned within circular brackets, date of grant or issue of the patent, e.g., Dingle P J G, Dual mode combustion apparatusand method, US Pat No 7,685,990 (to Delphi Technologies Inc, USA), 30 March 2010.

No full stop marks are needed anywhere.

Use of id, ibid, supra note etc., should be avoided; instead, appropriate reference should be given.


The authors may provide any additional information as Appendix to the article. This will be considered as a part of the article and evaluated as such.

 

Essentials of Manuscript

It is mandatory on the part of the author(s) to furnish the following certificate (uploaded as supplementary file) at the time of submission of the manuscript for publication:
[This to certify that the reported work in the paper entitled “………….” submitted for publication in the journal “………….” is an original one and has not been submitted for publication elsewhere. I/we further certify that proper citations to the previously reported work have been given and no data/tables/figures have been quoted verbatim from other publications without giving due
acknowledgement and without the permission of the author(s). The consent of all the authors of this paper has been obtained for submitting the paper to the journal“…………….”.
